The One, Supertall skyscraper at Yonge and Bloor Streets, Toronto, Canada
The One is a 306.3-meter tall skyscraper with 83 floors, making it the first supertall residential tower in Toronto. The structure connects directly to Bloor-Yonge subway station through an underground walkway system.
The site previously housed Stollerys department store for more than a century before developer Sam Mizrahi acquired the land in 2014. This change marked a shift in how the corner was used, from retail to mixed-use development.
The building contains shops, apartments, and the Andaz Toronto hotel, showing how the city is moving toward stacked mixed-use spaces. Visitors see retail activity, hotel guests, and residents sharing the same vertical block.
The tower sits at a major transit hub, making it simple to reach by subway through the connected underground walkway system. Visitors can stay dry during bad weather by using the interior passages that link directly to the station.
The exterior structural frame designed by Foster and Partners removes the need for interior support columns entirely. This allows apartment interiors to have unobstructed layouts that can be customized more freely.
