Double Double Land, Underground music venue in Kensington Market, Canada
Double Double Land was an underground music venue in Kensington Market located on the second floor of a building on Augusta Avenue. The space functioned as a multipurpose hall with areas for concerts, an art gallery, comedy, and various live performances.
The venue was founded in 2009 by four founders who transformed a neglected space into an active cultural center. It closed its doors in June 2018 after more than a decade of supporting local artists and the music community.
The venue hosted weekly shows by independent musicians, poets, and visual artists from the local underground scene. Visitors experienced performances in a space shaped by DIY values and artistic experimentation.
The venue was accessed down an alley and up a staircase, making it somewhat hidden from street view. It operated with regular events and was equipped with safety features including emergency response kits and panic buttons for visitors.
Before the venue began operations, the space had been used as a storage facility for bulk underwear. The founders sold this inventory for just 100 dollars to a stranger to make room for renovations.
