Jardin zoologique de Kinshasa, Zoological garden in Gombe district, Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Jardin zoologique de Kinshasa is a zoo located in the Gombe district that houses monkeys, crocodiles, cattle, birds, and snakes within its grounds. The facility displays several dozen animals representing multiple species in separate enclosures.
The zoo was founded in 1938 and was originally a much larger project housing hundreds of animals from different regions. Over the decades, the collection significantly diminished from its original size.
The zoo functions as a place where local families and school groups come to spend time and learn about the animals on display. Visitors can observe how children interact with the different species housed here.
The location is near the central market and can be reached on foot or by local transport. The best time to visit is in the morning when the animals are more active.
Two crocodiles named Simon and Antoinette have lived here since the founding and are among the oldest residents on the grounds. These long-living animals have become a special draw for many visitors.
