Hausstock, Mountain summit in Glarus Alps, Switzerland
The Hausstock mountain reaches an elevation of 3,158 meters between the regions of Grisons and Glarus, forming a natural border between these Swiss cantons.
In October 1799, Russian General Alexander Suvorov led his army across the Panix Pass beneath Hausstock during a strategic retreat from French Revolutionary forces.
The mountain gained recognition among international climbers during the nineteenth century, drawing British and American mountaineers to explore its challenging routes.
The summit requires proper climbing equipment including axes and crampons, particularly when crossing the Firn section during summer and autumn climbing seasons.
The Hausstock forms part of the Swiss Tectonic Arena Sardona, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its geological formations and tectonic features.
