Schwalmere, Mountain summit in Bernese Alps, Switzerland
Schwalmere is a mountain peak in the Bernese Alps that rises between the Kiental and Lauterbrunnen valleys. The summit is characterized by steep rocky slopes and the exposed alpine stone formations typical of this region.
The peak was shaped during the Alpine orogeny when ancient rock layers were thrust upward by tectonic forces. This geological process created the current mountain configuration visible today.
Local mountaineering clubs maintain traditional hiking routes across Schwalmere, continuing centuries-old practices of alpine path preservation.
Hikers can reach the summit using marked trails starting from Griesalp or Poganggen, though proper mountain gear and suitable weather are essential for a safe climb. The best season for visits runs from June through September.
The mountain's position provides an unobstructed view of 104 meters prominence, with Drättehorn standing as its nearest higher neighbor at 1.3 kilometers distance.
