Lobhörner, Mountain summit in Bern, Switzerland
The Lobhörner consists of five limestone towers in the Bernese Alps reaching about 2566 meters and forming a distinctive profile in the mountain landscape. The towers are connected by multiple climbing routes and equipped with anchor points in many places.
The first ascents of the peaks took place between 1876 and 1923, as different mountaineers reached the individual towers one by one. This period marks the beginning of organized mountaineering in this area.
The rock formations attract climbers from across Switzerland who practice both traditional and modern techniques on the various towers. The routes combine different difficulty levels and climbing styles in one location.
Climbers reach the Lobhörner from Sulwald via marked trails that pass by Lobhornhütte and lead to the climbing areas. The routes are most accessible in warmer months, as snow makes the paths more difficult in cold seasons.
A special challenge is the East-West traverse across all five towers, consisting of twelve pitches of climbing at grade 4c difficulty. This traverse is often sought by experienced climbers who want to conquer multiple towers in one day.
