Lago di Vogorno, Reservoir in Ticino, Switzerland.
Lago di Vogorno is a reservoir in the Verzasca valley of Ticino, stretching several kilometers between forested slopes and bare rock walls. The water shimmers in vivid shades of green and blue, fed by the Verzasca River above the dam of the same name.
The dam project began in the early 1960s when the Verzasca gorge was selected for hydroelectric power. After the wall was completed, the valley filled and formed this alpine lake.
The turquoise reservoir attracts hikers and climbers who walk along its shores between steep rock walls. Local anglers use the quieter sections, while kayakers paddle through the narrow valley in summer.
The reservoir lies near the village of Vogorno and can be reached via the road along the valley. Walking paths follow the shore, but the terrain can be steep and slippery.
In certain spots the lake bottom reaches more than 200 meters (656 feet) deep, making the water appear especially dark at those points. The color of the lake shifts with the sunlight and the seasons between emerald green and deep blue.
