Tribschen, Manor house near Lake Lucerne, Switzerland
Tribschen is a manor house located near Lake Lucerne with symmetrically arranged windows and a spacious park setting. The interior features rooms arranged in a classical layout, with the ground floor dedicated to museum displays and upper levels used for rotating exhibitions.
The house dates from the 15th century, first belonging to the Herren zu Tripschen family and passing to the Am Rhyn family in the 1700s. Wagner rented the property from 1866 to 1872 and composed major works during his stay, an association that eventually led to its transformation into a museum.
The name comes from the Herren zu Tripschen family who once owned the property. Today visitors see this place mainly through the lens of Wagner's time here, when it served as his private retreat and creative workspace.
The property is accessible and visitors can explore the different rooms at a comfortable pace, while the surrounding park provides space for breaks and rest. Plan time for both the interior and outdoor areas as each offers a different experience.
Opera singer Minnie Hauk purchased the property in 1889 and turned it into a private cultural hub before the city of Lucerne acquired it in 1931. Her collection of Wagner memorabilia and personal objects continues to shape the character of the exhibits today.
