Pointe de Zinal, Mountain summit in Valais, Switzerland
Pointe de Zinal is a mountain peak in the Valais Alps standing at 3,789 meters elevation, positioned between the Zinal and Zmutt valleys. The pointed summit rises sharply from surrounding terrain and forms a natural vantage point over the surrounding rock formations and glaciers.
The peak became a focus for climbing during the 19th century when mountaineering routes were first developed through the Pennine Alps region. Since then it has remained an important destination for those pursuing alpine climbing in this area.
Mountaineers from around the world gather at Pointe de Zinal to test their skills and experience the challenges of high-altitude Alpine climbing.
The summit can be reached via the Cabane de Moiry refuge at 2,825 meters elevation, which offers lodging and supplies for climbers. Most routes to the top involve exposed terrain and require mountaineering experience and proper equipment.
From the summit on clear days, climbers can see over two dozen peaks above 4,000 meters including the Matterhorn and Monte Rosa. This vast panorama makes the location popular with photographers documenting the alpine landscape.
