Kaiseregg

Kaiseregg is a 2,185-meter (7,170-foot) summit in the Bernese Alps with exposed rocky ridges and steep slopes throughout its structure. The terrain features sharp peaks and bare rock faces that define its dramatic alpine character.

The name transformed over centuries from 'Käseregg', meaning cheesemaker's corner, into 'Kaiseregg', reflecting emperor's corner. This linguistic shift tells a story about how alpine communities named their mountains after their own daily work.

Local herders use these slopes to graze cattle throughout the summer season. The presence of animals and the sound of bells are part of what makes this mountain feel alive and connected to alpine farming traditions.

The hiking route from Schwarzsee is well-marked and takes most visitors several hours to complete on foot. Using the chairlift at Riggisalp can reduce hiking time significantly, though weather conditions in the mountains can change quickly at any time of year.

On clear days, three major peaks can be seen from this summit at the same time: the Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau. Early morning light often makes this panoramic view especially sharp and memorable.
