Ochsen

Ochsen is a mountain summit in the Bernese Alps reaching 2,188 meters with steep rocky sections and far-reaching views of surrounding peaks. The formation features distinctive rock structures that shape the hiking experience and offer many vantage points.

The first recorded ascent took place in 1698, marking an early phase of exploration in this mountain region. Since then, the routes and human use of the peak have evolved over the centuries.

Shepherds and mountaineers have used this area for generations, and their traces remain visible in the established paths and shaped landscape. The local alpine culture influences every aspect of this mountain, from the huts to the traditions of those who work here.

The ascent via the Louigrat path takes around three hours and requires basic mountaineering skills on the steep sections. The Mittliste Morgete hut at 1,653 meters provides resting spots and serves as a good landmark during the climb.

This peak stands as the highest elevation in the entire Gantrisch chain, towering above neighboring summits. Its prominence of 384 meters from the Baachegg pass makes it a striking landmark in the alpine landscape.
