Gantrisch

Gantrisch is a mountain peak in the northwestern part of the Bernese Alps, positioned between Simmental Valley and Aar Valley. The slopes feature both pastures and forested areas, with several marked trails providing access to the summit.

Medieval traders and travelers crossed this mountain area as a key passage connecting communities in the Bernese region. Over time, alpine farming gradually became the primary use of the slopes, shaping the landscape we see today.

Farmers on the Gantrisch slopes work the land using methods rooted in alpine tradition, shaping how the mountain community lives and works. This way of life remains visible in how the meadows and pastures are maintained across the slopes.

The mountain can be visited year-round, though summer and early autumn offer the clearest views and safest conditions for walking. Visitors should bring proper hiking gear and be prepared for changing weather, as mountain conditions can shift quickly.

The area holds certification as a Dark Sky Park, meaning the night sky here remains relatively free from light pollution. This makes stargazing from the slopes an unusual and memorable experience compared to most mountain areas.
