Chinese Garden

The Chinese Garden in Zürich is a traditional garden layout featuring a central pond, small island, and surrounding pavilions situated beside the lake. The design combines open walkways with stone and wood elements that frame views of the water.

The garden was created as a gift from the city of Kunming to Zürich following technical assistance provided for urban development projects. Its completion marked a partnership between the two cities, demonstrating cultural exchange through landscape design.

Visitors experience this garden as a space where traditional Chinese design principles shape how the grounds are organized and used. Those who walk through the galleries discover how silence and open areas are intentionally arranged to encourage reflection.

The garden is within walking distance of public transport and is accessible from March through October. Visitors should check opening times and know that the site's appearance varies depending on the season.

The open galleries display hundreds of carved panels depicting Chinese landscapes and still life scenes. These ornamental carvings together form an extensive collection of artistic details that reveal themselves as visitors walk through the space.
