Zürichhorn, River delta and cultural landscape in Seefeld district, Zürich, Switzerland
Zürichhorn is a river delta and cultural landscape along the eastern shore of Lake Zürich, featuring designed gardens, multiple walking paths, and open views of the water and surrounding hills. The site contains different areas to explore with varied botanical and design features.
The site formed after the last ice age when the Linth glacier retreated and the Wehrenbach stream carved through glacial deposits into the lake basin. Over time, the natural landscape was shaped with gardens and paths, developing into a place for recreation and cultural activities.
The Chinese Garden displays traditional landscape architecture with curved paths and water features, showing how Swiss and Asian garden cultures came together in this space.
The site is easily reached by tram and bus or by boat during summer months, offering multiple arrival options. Visitors should bring appropriate footwear for walking the paths and expect varying weather depending on the season.
The site has hosted Kino am See since 1989, one of Europe's largest open-air cinemas, operating from mid-July to mid-August on the lake shore. During these months, films are shown on a screen directly facing the water with viewers sitting on the grass or in deck chairs.
