The New Château in Gerzensee is a 17th-century building in the French baroque style, erected around 1690 by Samuel Morlot. It is a class B Swiss cultural property of regional significance and has housed the Studienzentrum Gerzensee foundation since 1984.
Samuel Morlot built the New Château around 1690 in the French Baroque style. In 1755 Franz Emanuel Anton von Graffenried bought the estate; in 1813 the von Graffenried family sold it to the von Erlach family. The Lindemann and Losinger families acquired it in 1918 and sold it to the Swiss National Bank in 1980; in 1984 it passed to the Studienzentrum Gerzensee foundation.
The château serves as a study and research center that attracts professionals from around the world interested in banking and economics. The spaces support this scholarly exchange and create an environment for serious intellectual work.
The château is not a hotel: since 1984 it has belonged to the Studienzentrum Gerzensee foundation, which runs training courses for central bank staff there. Access to the building and grounds follows the foundation's course and seminar use, so visits should be arranged with the study centre rather than booked as an overnight stay.
