Piz Tomül, Mountain summit in Graubünden, Switzerland
Piz Tomül is a mountain summit in the Lepontine Alps that rises to 2,946 meters (9,665 feet) with steep flanks and a defined peak. The mountain dominates the view from the surrounding Safiental and Valser valley regions.
The pass near this summit gained prominence in 1941 when Polish internees constructed a path linking Safiental with the Vals region. This route created a vital connection between two remote Alpine valleys separated by high terrain.
Local mountaineers follow traditional routes to reach the summit, reflecting the Alpine climbing practices of the Graubünden region. Seasonal path markers guide visitors through terrain shaped by generations of mountain travel.
The mountain can be reached via established T2-grade hiking trails, with the main route starting from Thalkirch village in Safiental. Standard hiking equipment and sure-footedness on steep rocky terrain are important for the journey.
The summit stands as the highest point directly north of Tomülpass and provides views toward lesser-frequented Alpine passes. This position makes it a quiet vantage point for experienced hikers seeking terrain away from popular routes.
