Piz Nurschalas

Piz Nurschalas, also called Pazolastock, is a mountain peak that divides two Swiss cantons and sits between the villages of Andermatt and Tujetsch. The landscape around it features alpine meadows and rocky outcrops typical of the central Swiss mountains.

This mountain marks a centuries-old border between Uri, one of Switzerland's founding cantons, and Graubünden. The cantonal boundary was established through territorial agreements that have shaped the political organization of the Alpine region.

Mountain huts near this summit serve traditional alpine meals that reflect local food customs from both surrounding regions. These establishments function as social gathering places where hikers experience how mountain communities maintain their daily rhythms and traditions.

From this summit, visitors can observe the source of the Rhine River at nearby Lake Toma. This location marks the very beginning of one of Europe's major rivers in this mountain landscape.
