The building was created through a merger of two former art museums and opened to the public in 2015. This modern structure resulted from a decision to unite the region's art collections in a single location.

The venue displays artworks from Italian-speaking Switzerland, drawing visitors interested in regional art collections. The exhibition spaces showcase pieces from both local and international artists within a modern setting.

The center is open Tuesday through Sunday, with extended hours on Thursday until 8:00 PM. Visitors should check ahead for current exhibitions and performances to plan their visit accordingly.

The concert hall features an adjustable acoustic shell that adapts to different performance types, from classical concerts to contemporary theater. This technical feature allows the space to support various artistic presentations effectively.
