Sky City, Proposed skyscraper project in Changsha, China
Sky City is a proposed skyscraper in Changsha that was never completed. The tower was designed to house multiple floors combining residential units, offices, medical facilities, and educational spaces within one structure.
The project was announced in 2012 by Broad Group and aimed to use prefabricated construction methods to complete the tower in roughly 90 days. Construction started but stopped in 2016 and was never resumed.
The building concept reflected China's rapid urbanization through vertical development, integrating schools, hospitals, offices, and residential spaces in one structure.
The incomplete construction site is located near the Daze Lake wetland area and is not open to visitors. The ground was converted to aquaculture use after construction halted.
The original design would have required 270,000 tons of steel and housed 17,000 residents in a single vertical community. This extreme density concept attracted global attention and represented an ambitious vision of urban living.
