Mount Longhu, Sacred Mountain in Yingtan, China

Mount Longhu rises above the Luxi River in Yingtan city and features red cliff faces with multiple peaks that define the landscape. Taoist temples are integrated into the hillsides and surrounding areas, creating a blend of natural formations and religious structures.

The mountain became the birthplace of organized Taoism when religious leaders established their sect here during the Eastern Han Dynasty. Over centuries, it developed into a major spiritual and administrative center for Taoist practice and learning.

The mountain serves as a major Taoist center where temples remain active places of worship and learning. Visitors can witness rituals and ceremonies that reflect religious practices passed down through generations.

The mountain is best experienced from the river, where bamboo raft tours offer excellent views of the cliffs and temples. Walking paths and steps guide visitors through different areas, with weather conditions being the main factor in planning a visit.

The cliff faces hold ancient coffins suspended in rock crevices, preserving burial customs from an early people that date back thousands of years. These hanging tombs offer a rare glimpse into forgotten funeral practices that shaped the region's early history.
