Ehu Academy

Ehu Academy is a historical school building in Yanshan County with traditional Chinese architecture made of stone and wood. The grounds contain several teaching and residential buildings, courtyards, and planted areas that show how students and teachers lived together here.

The academy was founded during the Song Dynasty and served generations of Chinese scholars as a place for learning and teaching. Over the centuries it continued to develop while maintaining its role as an important educational center in the region.

The academy displays manuscripts and stone inscriptions that show how scholars were taught here across centuries and which texts they studied. These collections give visitors today a sense of what daily life was like for students in a traditional Chinese school.

The site is best visited during daylight to see the details of the stone carvings and architecture. Sturdy footwear is recommended as the grounds consist of different levels and paved paths.

Several areas of the academy preserve stone tablets with poems and scholarly texts carved directly into the walls. Such permanent records were a way to preserve important knowledge so it would not be lost.
