Lei Cheng Uk Han Tomb Museum, Archaeological museum in Cheung Sha Wan, Hong Kong.
Lei Cheng Uk Han Tomb Museum is an archaeological museum built around a preserved Eastern Han tomb in Cheung Sha Wan, Hong Kong. The brick structure comprises four chambers arranged in a cruciform layout, with a central dome rising above the burial room and three adjoining barrel-vaulted chambers.
The tomb was uncovered in 1955 when workers prepared the site for housing development, revealing a structure dating from 25 to 220 AD. Inscribed bricks found inside link the burial to Panyu county, demonstrating the reach of Han administration into this southern territory.
The displayed pottery models recreate scenes from daily life during the Han period, showing farmers tending fields and cooks preparing meals. These figurines were placed in tombs to accompany the deceased into the afterlife and reflect beliefs about continuity beyond death.
The site opens daily except Thursdays from 10 AM to 6 PM, with Thursday opening on public holidays, and charges no entry fee. The burial chamber itself is sealed behind glass at the entrance passage, allowing observation without entering the controlled interior.
The bricks forming the chambers were stacked without any mortar, relying entirely on precision cutting and fitting to hold the structure together. Since 1980, the interior has remained under climate control and sealed from direct contact, visible only through a glass barrier in the entrance passage.
