Southern District

The Southern District extends over 39 square kilometers of Hong Kong Island, containing beaches, residential zones, and mountain areas facing the South China Sea.

The formation of Hong Kong districts began in 1982 when the British administration established district boards to improve local governance and community representation.

The district features traditional dragon boat races and hosts the Tai Ping Ching Chiu festival, maintaining connections with maritime heritage and local customs.

The South Island MTR line connects Wong Chuk Hang and Ap Lei Chau to Admiralty, while numerous bus routes serve Stanley and Repulse Bay areas.

The district maintains multiple public beaches, marine facilities, and Ocean Park, making it the primary coastal recreation zone of Hong Kong Island.
