Ho Tung Gardens

Ho Tung Gardens is a residential villa complex on Victoria Peak featuring ornamental architectural details and multilevel garden spaces. The property spans across terraced grounds with landscaped pathways that connect different levels of the site.

Sir Robert Ho Tung commissioned the complex in 1937 during the British colonial period when Hong Kong was under European control. The site was built when wealthy merchants were constructing grand residential compounds across the island.

The gardens blend traditional Eastern design principles with Western architectural features, showing how Hong Kong mixed these influences. Walking through the grounds, visitors can observe how both styles appear together in the pathways, plantings, and building details.

The property sits atop Victoria Peak and is best accessed by foot from the Peak or by local transport to the edge of the site. Visitors should check weather conditions beforehand, as the elevated location means it can be cooler and more humid than the city below.

The complex received Grade I historic status, one of Hong Kong's highest building protections. This designation means it is recognized as an outstanding example of residential architecture from that era.
