No. 27 Lugard Road, Grade I historic residential building on Victoria Peak, Hong Kong.
No. 27 Lugard Road is a single-story residential building with neo-classical features and concrete construction situated 400 meters above sea level along a narrow walking path. The structure integrates into the hillside terrain of the Victoria Peak area with supporting walls and surrounding tropical growth.
Constructed in 1914 by architect Lennox Godfrey Bird, this building originally housed workers from Taikoo Dockyard & Engineering Company. It stands as the first residential property developed on Lugard Road and represents the early expansion of harbor-related industries in Hong Kong.
The building reflects early colonial living practices in Hong Kong, showing how residential spaces were designed for workers in the harbor district.
Access to the building is via a narrow pedestrian path between 2 and 2.4 meters wide, set away from main roads. Visitors should prepare for steep walking routes and limited vehicle access, with special permits required for cars.
The house overlooks Victoria Harbour and sits surrounded by tropical vegetation that brings greenery to the urban space. Its location atop the peak provides a perspective on the harbor city that few buildings from that era share.
