Luoyang Bridge

Luoyang Bridge is a stone bridge crossing the Luoyang River with a length of about 1100 meters. The structure features 46 granite piers and more than 600 stone railings with carved lion statues.

Construction began in 1053 under governor Cai Xiang's supervision during the Northern Song Dynasty. The project marked a major advancement in Chinese bridge-building techniques of that era.

The bridge displays pagodas and stone towers from Song and Yuan periods that visitors can observe today. These structures show how craftsmanship evolved across different centuries.

The bridge is easy to reach by bus from the railway station or main bus terminal in the area. Wear comfortable shoes since walking across takes time due to its length.

During construction, builders used an unusual technique by cultivating oysters beneath the bridge structure. The shells' secretions naturally strengthened the joints between stone elements.
