Chengtian Temple, Buddhist temple in Licheng District, Quanzhou, China.

Chengtian Temple is a Buddhist sanctuary in Licheng that stretches across a significant distance and contains several main halls such as the Four Heavenly Kings Hall, the Maitreya Hall, and the Mahavira Hall. The grounds are generously planted with mature trees including banyan, willow, and longan varieties that provide natural shade over the pathways.

The site was first established in the mid-10th century as South Chan Temple and initially served as a garden during the Southern Tang period. Over subsequent centuries, it evolved into a major Buddhist center in the region.

The temple holds significant standing as one of the city's three principal Buddhist sanctuaries and attracts visitors engaged in prayer and meditation. Inside, you will find incense-filled halls with statues that receive regular offerings from devotees throughout the day.

The temple is easy to explore on foot since the various halls are connected by level pathways and shade is available throughout from the mature trees. Visitors should wear respectful clothing and follow proper conduct rules, as this remains an active place of worship.

Within the complex stands a thirteen-story stone monument decorated with intricate carvings of phoenixes and lotus flowers from the Song period. This structure demonstrates craftsmanship from an earlier era than the main temple buildings.
