Tuen Mun–Chek Lap Kok Link, Bridge-tunnel system in Hong Kong.
The Tuen Mun–Chek Lap Kok Link is a bridge and tunnel system in Lantau Island and the New Territories of Hong Kong, connecting the northwest with the international airport. The subsea tunnel runs along the coastline while viaduct sections cross the topography of hills and bays.
The southern section of the link opened in October 2018 alongside the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. The northern part was completed in December 2020, finishing the entire route across the region.
The passage strengthens the connection between Hong Kong International Airport and local communities, supporting regional mobility and development.
The route cuts travel time from south Tuen Mun to Hong Kong airport from around 30 minutes to about 10 minutes. Travelers find signage along the way that directs them to different exits and connections.
The tunnel boring used a machine with an outer diameter of about 18 meters, setting a world record for tunnel equipment when completed. This size allowed engineers to carve two lanes and additional service shafts within a single tube drive.
