Tuen Mun Ferry Pier, Ferry port at Butterfly Beach in Tuen Mun District, Hong Kong.
Tuen Mun Ferry Pier is a ferry port at Butterfly Beach in Tuen Mun District, Hong Kong. The two-storey building has waiting areas, passenger loading zones and shops along the waterfront promenade.
The pier opened in December 1986 and established the first regular boat service between western Hong Kong and Macau. In the years that followed, additional routes to mainland China and the islands were added.
The name Tuen Mun comes from the Cantonese term for "pearl gate" and recalls the pearl fishing industry in the area. Today you see commuters and visitors waiting for boats to Macau while locals gather in the shops and cafés around the building.
Ferries run several times a day to Tung Chung, Macau and other destinations. Tickets are available at the counter in the terminal or online, and departure times vary with weather and traffic volume.
The Ocean Walk shopping center connects directly to the building and offers restaurants and shops for travelers. A bridge leads to the Light Rail station, so you can switch between transport modes without leaving the complex.
