Shangfeng Temple

Shangfeng Temple is a Buddhist sanctuary built across the slopes of Mount Heng featuring multiple interconnected halls and pavilions. The grounds showcase iron statues, carved details, and traditional roof designs typical of Chinese religious architecture.

The site began as a Taoist temple during the Eastern Han period before Emperor Yang of the Sui dynasty transformed it into a Buddhist sanctuary and gave it its current name. This shift reflected changing religious patterns in the region over centuries.

The temple underwent extensive rebuilding starting in 1987 after being officially recognized as a National Key Buddhist Temple, restoring sections lost to conflict in earlier periods. This reconstruction effort transformed the site into what visitors see today.
