The Yunnan Imperial Examination Hall contains thousands of examination rooms spread across 30 hectares, featuring traditional Chinese architectural elements and multiple ceremonial gates.
Constructed in 1168, this examination center reached its maximum capacity during the Tongzhi Period between 1861 and 1875, accommodating over 20,000 examination rooms.
The examination hall functioned as a provincial testing center where candidates underwent evaluations to secure positions in the Chinese civil service system.
Visitors can access the site through public transportation and explore the Mingyuan Tower, examination cells, and Zhigong Hall between 8:30 AM and 10:00 PM.
The Feihong Bridge within the complex maintained examination integrity by physically separating officials from candidates during testing periods through strict access control.
