Qing'an Guildhall, Protected historical site in Yinzhou District, China
The East Zhejiang Maritime Affairs and Folk Custom Museum occupies the Qing'an Guildhall, featuring traditional Chinese architectural elements and detailed wooden carvings throughout its structures.
Built in 1191 as a temple to the sea-goddess Mazu, the guildhall underwent reconstruction by Fujianese merchants in the mid-19th century and extensive repairs from 1997 to 2001.
The Great Hall contains a performance stage for operas, rising 9.5 meters high with stone carvings depicting Chinese folklore and architectural elements featuring dragons and phoenixes.
The museum presents exhibitions about eastern Zhejiang's maritime history, including artifacts such as the wooden steering wheel from the 1948 SS Jiangya shipwreck.
The complex sits near the former waterfront outside old city walls, where Fujian merchants established it during the Southern Song Dynasty as a strategic trade location.
