San Po Kong Eight Streets, Industrial street network in San Po Kong, Hong Kong.
San Po Kong Eight Streets is a mixed industrial and residential area in the Wong Tai Sin District of Hong Kong, made up of eight streets laid out in a grid. Factory buildings, housing blocks, and rows of local shops sit close together across the area.
The land was originally part of the Kai Tak Airport runway and was turned into an industrial zone during the 1950s after the airport was restructured. That change made the area one of Hong Kong's early manufacturing centers.
The eight streets are known for their local dim sum spots and beef noodle shops that have served the same neighborhood for decades. Workers and residents share tables side by side, which gives the area a down-to-earth, everyday feel.
The area is easy to get around on foot, and all eight streets can be covered without much effort. The nearest MTR stations are a short walk away, and several bus routes also stop nearby.
Just Climb, a climbing gym, operates inside one of the industrial buildings and offers a type of activity rarely associated with this kind of neighborhood. It shows how some of the older factory spaces in the area are slowly opening up to new uses.
