Hammer Hill Park, Urban park in Kowloon, Hong Kong
Hammer Hill Park is an urban park in Diamond Hill, Kowloon, Hong Kong, running along Fung Tak Road and covering walking trails, sports courts, and planted garden sections. The terrain follows the natural slope of the hill, so parts of the park sit at different levels connected by paths and steps.
The land where the park now stands was previously occupied by informal settlements that were cleared in the 1990s as part of a wider effort to redevelop the Diamond Hill area. The park was then built in 2 phases, with work finishing first in 2000 and the second phase completing in 2006.
Hammer Hill Park sits in Diamond Hill, a neighborhood that carries a strong sense of local identity, and residents treat it as an extension of their daily life. Early mornings bring older visitors doing stretching exercises under the trees, while children take over the open areas after school.
The park is open at all hours and entry is free, making it easy to visit at any time of day. Diamond Hill MTR station is a short walk away, so getting there from other parts of the city takes little effort.
The park sits just a short walk from both the Chi Lin Nunnery and Nan Lian Garden, so visitors can move between three very different green spaces without taking any transport. This corner of Diamond Hill is one of the few places in Hong Kong where a city park, a Buddhist monastery, and a classical Chinese garden stand this close together.
