Aviary Pagoda, Bird sanctuary in Yuen Long District, Hong Kong.
The Aviary Pagoda is a seven-story red tower in Yuen Long Park that houses an enclosed bird sanctuary at its base level. The structure reaches approximately 30 meters in height and provides a home for more than 100 birds representing about 30 different species.
The building opened to the public in 1991 as part of the Yuen Long Park development scheme. Its construction was aimed at preserving the natural woodland area at Shui Ngau Ling while creating a space for bird conservation.
The structure follows traditional Chinese architectural design with multiple tiers that narrow toward the top and end in a viewing platform. This style reflects classical building principles that visitors can experience while watching the birds.
Access is through a revolving door that leads into an enclosed space filled with trees, shrubs, and plants where birds fly freely around guests. The natural environment inside allows for comfortable viewing from various spots throughout the area.
The interior combines naturally growing trees and shrubs where birds such as Orange-bellied Leafbirds and Black Bulbuls fly without barriers. This design creates an experience where visitors witness the birds moving freely rather than being confined.
