Aberdeen Channel Bridge, Rail bridge in Aberdeen Channel, Hong Kong
Aberdeen Channel Bridge is a rail bridge spanning the channel in Hong Kong, connecting Lei Tung and Wong Chuk Hang. The structure was built as a double-track railway system that carries passengers across the water with a designed clearance below for boat traffic.
Construction of this concrete box girder bridge began in 2011 and was completed in 2016. It marked an important development for public transportation in Hong Kong and opened new connections across the region.
The name reflects local geography, blending English and Chinese conventions as seen in the regional designation. Visitors notice how the structure has become part of the daily urban landscape and connects different communities.
The best way to experience this bridge is by taking the MTR South Island Line through Lei Tung or Wong Chuk Hang stations, as it forms part of the rail system. For views from outside the trains, visitors can see it from nearby waterside areas or from boats passing underneath.
This is the only rail connection to Ap Lei Chau island, complementing the road bridge that has existed since 1980. The new rail link provides an additional route for people traveling to or living on the island.
