The project was completed in phases between 1965 and 1966 and was the first housing project built by the Hong Kong Housing Society. This early initiative helped shape the direction of public housing in the territory.
The name Ming Wah means bright splendor and honors Bishop Ronald Owen Hall, a founding member of the Hong Kong Housing Society. Residents gather in the central spaces between buildings for community events and daily activities.
