Hu Yaobang's Former Residence, Historical residence in Cangfang Village, Liuyang, China.
Hu Yaobang's former residence is a compound in Cangfang Village consisting of several traditional structures spread across about 450 square meters. The complex includes old houses, an open courtyard, an ancestral temple, and an exhibition hall displaying historical documents and personal items.
The house was built between 1851 and 1862 during the Qing Dynasty by Hu Yaobang's great-grandfather, marking the starting point of this future Communist Party leader's life and career. The structure was carefully preserved over many decades through authorized maintenance work.
The residence displays the regional building style of Hunan with wooden beams and brick walls typical of the area for many generations. The rooms are arranged in the traditional way and show how people lived in this region long ago.
The site is easy to walk around with clear paths connecting the different buildings, allowing visitors to explore the compound at their own pace. Free entry tickets are available at the entrance when you present an identification document.
Hu Yaobang requested in 1962 that the house should not be rebuilt, an unusual wish that has kept the original character of the building intact to this day. This request was respected even as maintenance work was carried out over the years.
