Tan Sitong's Former Residence

The residence extends over 1,200 square meters with traditional Chinese architectural elements, featuring courtyards, gardens, and residential quarters from the Ming dynasty period.

From 1880 to 1882, the residence served as home to Tan Sitong, a prominent intellectual who later became a leader in the Chinese reform movement during the Qing dynasty.

The residence contains exhibits displaying Tan Sitong's personal belongings, manuscripts, and educational materials that reflect Chinese intellectual life in the late 19th century.

The site opens daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with guided tours available in Mandarin, while informational panels throughout the complex provide translations in English.

The residence maintains original furniture arrangements and study spaces where Tan Sitong developed his philosophical work 'Theory of Benevolence' between 1896 and 1897.
