Changsha Ecological Zoo

Changsha Ecological Zoo is a large park with walking zones, driving areas, and varied ecosystems housing over 5,000 animals from roughly 300 species. The grounds feature different landscapes and sections designed for various animal groups, from large mammals to birds.

The facility was founded in 1934 and relocated several times, first starting at Tianxin Park, then moving to Martyrs Park in 1958, and finally arriving at its current location in 2010. These relocations reflect the zoo's growing importance and expansion over the decades.

The zoo serves as a major educational destination where school groups come to observe animals in settings that resemble their natural habitats. Visitors can watch how different species interact and behave in these designed environments.

The best way to reach the facility is by buses 125 or 201, which provide direct access to the grounds. Arriving early in the day is helpful, especially on weekends, to see animals when they are more active and avoid larger crowds.

The facility holds special authorization to care for protected animal species found only in a few places across China. This makes it one of the few locations in the province where visitors can encounter these animals under human care.
