Changsha Jiandu Museum

The Changsha Jiandu Museum is a two-level building displaying thousands of inscribed bamboo and wooden slips from ancient China. The artifacts come from excavations and document different types of written records that people left behind over a long period.

The museum was founded in 2002 to preserve written materials discovered during excavations at an ancient site. The pieces come from different periods and show how people wrote across multiple centuries.

The collection shows personal and official records from ancient China written on bamboo and wood. You see everyday letters, administrative documents, and notes that reveal what daily life was like during that period.

The museum welcomes visitors most days of the week and sits in a residential neighborhood with good access. It helps to check beforehand which days it is closed to avoid disappointing trips.
