Changsha Jiandu Museum, Bamboo and wooden slip museum in Tianxin District, Changsha, China

The Changsha Jiandu Museum is a two-level building displaying thousands of inscribed bamboo and wooden slips from ancient China. The artifacts come from excavations and document different types of written records that people left behind over a long period.

The museum was founded in 2002 to preserve written materials discovered during excavations at an ancient site. The pieces come from different periods and show how people wrote across multiple centuries.

The collection shows personal and official records from ancient China written on bamboo and wood. You see everyday letters, administrative documents, and notes that reveal what daily life was like during that period.

The museum stands at No. 92 Baisha Road in Tianxin District, next to Baisha Well to the south and Tianxin Pavilion to the west. It closes on Tuesdays and opens from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on other days, with no admission fee. Bus lines 旅2, 122, 202, 314, 406 and 803 stop at Chengnan Intersection, and 124 or 901 at the West Door of Tianxin Pavilion.

This museum holds one of the world's largest collections of its kind and documents nearly one thousand years of written evidence. The sheer amount and time span of the pieces shows how continuous and widespread writing on these materials was.
