Kuyangshu Nordic Center and Biathlon Center, Wintersportanlage in China
The Kuyangshu Nordic Center and Biathlon Center is a winter sports venue in the Zhangjiakou region of China. The facility features modern racing trails, shooting ranges, and jumping hills designed specifically for high-level athletic competitions.
The facility was constructed and renovated for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. It served as a central venue for cross-country skiing, biathlon, and Nordic combined competitions during those Games.
The name Kuyangshu reflects its location in this mountainous region near Zhangjiakou. Today it serves as a gathering place where winter sports enthusiasts and spectators come together during the season to watch competitions and share a passion for skiing and biathlon.
The facility sits on a plateau at an elevation between roughly 5400 and 5600 feet and is exposed to Siberian winds that can carry sand and dust. Visitors should wear warm clothing and prepare for variable weather conditions, as snowstorms and sandstorms can occur.
Snow production here is artificial since natural snowfall is rare in this mountain region. Skilled teams like the Finnish squad brought snow samples for laboratory analysis to choose optimal waxes and ski designs.
