Former residence of Zhang Taiyan in Suzhou

The former residence at No. 38 Jinfan Road contains three mixed-style buildings combining Chinese and Western architectural elements with traditional wooden lattice windows.

Zhang Taiyan established his residence in 1932, using the space to store his collection and engage with guests during the final period of his life.

The site houses a museum section presenting Zhang Taiyan's contributions to Chinese nationalism, alongside a modern bookstore showcasing literature and philosophy collections.

The complex includes dedicated areas for book displays, cultural exhibitions, and public lectures, with the southernmost building serving as the primary museum space.

The renovation integrated a vertical courtyard concept that connects different levels while maximizing natural light throughout the interior spaces of the historical buildings.
