Völklingen

Völklingen is a municipality in Regionalverband Saarbrücken, Saarland, Germany, and sits close to the French border. The town stretches along the Saar and divides into ten separate districts.

The settlement first appeared in written records as Fulcolingas in the year 822 and had Celtic as well as Roman predecessors. During the 19th century, the town transformed into an important production site through the iron industry.

The name evolved from Fulcolingas, a medieval term that gradually changed into Völklingen over the centuries. Visitors today see how the old ironworks shaped the town's appearance and how residents continue to value their industrial past.
