Bad Aibling, Thermal spa town in Rosenheim, Germany
Bad Aibling is a town in the Rosenheim district of Bavaria, situated at 498 meters elevation along the Mangfall River and home to several spa hotels and rehabilitation centers. The buildings spread between the historic town center with its traditional houses and the modern clinic structures on the southern edge.
A settlement called Epininga was first recorded in 804 AD, following Celtic and later Roman habitation in the area. The place officially received spa town status in 1895, after the healing properties of the peat deposits had been medically used since 1845.
The name Epininga from the 8th century points to the oldest known inhabitants, while today spa guests from across Europe use the peat treatments and thermal pools. Many visitors combine their stay with walks along the Mangfall, where locals meet for cycling and strolling.
The thermal facilities provide specialized peat pulp applications and mineral baths, with medical professionals offering guidance for different health concerns. A visit can easily be combined with stays in the surrounding Bavarian Alps, which are reachable within an hour.
The local clinics have combined therapies based on peat mud with modern treatment methods for more than 170 years. This connection between traditional natural healing and contemporary medicine still shapes the profile of the rehabilitation facilities today.
