Bad Urach, Spa town in Reutlingen district, Germany.
Bad Urach is a small town in Reutlingen district at the edge of the Swabian Jura. The settlement extends from the valley floor to the wooded slopes, with spa facilities in the center and hiking paths leading to surrounding rock formations.
The settlement formed in the 11th century under the protection of a fortress and later became a residence of the Württemberg counts. The town experienced a golden period in the 15th century as a princely seat before declining in importance, with the healing springs rediscovered in the 19th century.
The town name refers to its position in a valley hollow, while its old quarter remains defined by timber-framed houses still in residential use. Visitors see fountains with healing water that flows freely and is used by locals and guests alike.
The thermal baths are centrally located and reachable on foot, while hiking trails to the ruins and the waterfall begin at the edge of town. The spa park offers level paths and benches that suit a quiet walk.
The waterfall on the edge of town drops 37 meters (121 feet) into a tufa basin and can be reached via a circular path that remains walkable in winter. Ice formations on the rock walls attract many photographers during cold months.
