Städel Museum, Art museum in Frankfurt, Germany
The Städel Museum spans 7,500 square meters and contains 3,000 paintings, 600 sculptures, and over 100,000 drawings from seven centuries of art history.
Johann Friedrich Städel, a Frankfurt banker, established the museum in 1816, making it the first museum foundation in Germany with its initial collection shown in his residence.
The museum collection includes works by Lucas Cranach, Albrecht Dürer, Sandro Botticelli, Rembrandt van Rijn, Johannes Vermeer, Claude Monet, and Pablo Picasso.
Located at Schaumainkai 63, the museum opens Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with extended hours until 9:00 PM on Thursdays.
The 2012 extension added an underground hall with 195 circular skylights, creating a pattern of light dots visible from the museum gardens above.
