Holbeinsteg, Steel suspension footbridge in Frankfurt, Germany.
The Holbeinsteg is a modern steel suspension bridge crossing the Main River with two blue towers connected by red and grey-blue cables. It links downtown Frankfurt with the southern riverbank and serves pedestrians and cyclists.
The bridge was designed by architecture firm Albert Speer & Partner and opened in 1990. It replaced an earlier crossing and was built to handle growing pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
The bridge connects art museums on the south bank with downtown, and people cross it daily to visit cultural institutions on both sides. Residents also use it as a regular shortcut for shopping and work.
The bridge is accessible day and night for pedestrians and cyclists, with plenty of space for both. During heavy rain, the metal surface can become slippery, so care is recommended.
From the bridge, visitors get a clear view of Frankfurt's financial district skyline with the Main River flowing below. The spot is particularly popular at sunset when light reflects off the water.
