Friedensbrücke, Steel road bridge in Frankfurt, Germany
Friedensbrücke is a steel road bridge spanning 287 meters across the Main River, connecting Baseler Platz on one side to Stresemannallee on the other. It contains multiple lanes for vehicles, tram lines, bicycle paths, and pedestrian walkways all integrated into one structure.
The previous Wilhelmsbrücke served the city starting in 1844, but was destroyed during World War II. This bridge was rebuilt between 1950 and 1951 as its successor.
A bronze sculpture titled 'The Dock Worker' from 1890 sits at the southern end, recalling the former Westhafen port area that once defined this part of the city. The work reflects how this bridge connects to the district's waterfront heritage.
The bridge provides separate areas for different types of travelers, making it easy for everyone to find a safe passage. Pedestrians and cyclists can use their dedicated paths without mixing with car traffic.
The bridge carries federal road 44 and hosts the Ebbelwei Express tram service, a popular tourist train through the city. Cyclists also find different riding routes with varying difficulty levels here.
