Schlosspark Nymphenburg, Royal park in Munich, Germany

Schlosspark Nymphenburg is a 180-hectare royal park in Munich that combines baroque formal gardens with sweeping English landscape sections. The grounds blend trimmed hedges and geometric waterways with natural plantings and multiple lakes that wind through the terrain.

The park began in 1664 as an Italian-style garden commissioned by Bavarian royalty and was reshaped during the 18th century by different design movements. French and English landscape architects left their marks on its appearance across different periods.

The three pavilions scattered throughout show different building styles and reflect how Bavarian nobility enjoyed spending time outdoors. They give visitors a sense of how royal leisure and social gatherings unfolded in this setting.

The grounds are free to enter and easy to explore on foot, with main pathways and clear signage connecting different sections. Wear comfortable shoes and allow time for a leisurely walk through the various areas.

A network of waterways flows through the park, fed by the nearby Würm river through a dedicated canal system. On warmer days, visitors can ride in traditional gondolas to travel along these water routes.
